Guide

Hello!

What you can see once logged in:

Account (profile) page
Here you’ll find information on Newsletter Subscriptions, links to your Blog, tabs to:

  • Bookmarks - site content you’ve choosen to bookmark
  • CMF - a tool to manage the content you’ve created
  • Edit – various settings and fields which you can change and add to (please check these now and again as new features/options may have been added.)
  • Track – recent contents you’ve created (this feature is available in all users profiles)
  • File Browser – a tool for uploading and managing files. Please note: image max size of 560x560px – images larger than this will be reduced on upload. Re. uploads: max file size = 2mb, max total = 40mb, max files per operation = 10. It is not yet possible to copy or move files - so best to be tidy and organised with files and folders from the start. (This tool is also used directly from the text editor – when creating or editing content.) Each student has a personal images, documents and other folder created automatically - plus access to a shared folder.
Note, any and all content and files added or uploaded to the site should be considered as public domain and not private.

User Menu
You’ll see links to My Account, Blogs, Instructions, Examples and Logout plus a link to:

  • Create content – Here you can create/add to your Blog and create a Portfolio. (Note, please only create 1 Portfolio.)

Translations – for both Blogs and Portfolios it is possible to set the language and translate the content. Blog and Portfolio content that has no language set will be displayed when viewing the site in any language.

Comments – it is possible for all logged in users to post comments on both Blogs and Portfolios. The creator of the Blog or Portfolio is able to delete any comments by other users. You can also make various choices regarding comment notifications in your account settings and when commenting on other users content.

Text Editor
When creating or editing content you will use a Text Editor with various features. These include some feature common to most text editors (eg. Word) along with some extra features – Insert Image, Youtube video, Picasa Gallery, Flickr photo and Flickr photoset. Check the examples below to see what they can do. (Please do not use these features in excess - that would cause website problems and pages that are hard to view.) If you wish to link to an uploaded file in your content (other than an image) – use the Insert/Edit Link button and Browser Server. You can change the default language of the Text Editor interface by editing your Profile settings.

Please note, the site is still in development and is not yet ‘live’ – it will not replace the original permaculturefrance / UPP website until more work and content has been completed. Some UPP students are being given access to the site now so that they can set up and use Blogs and Portfolio pages – and also to help test, correct and improve the site. These instructions are meant only as a very basic guide – please send any recommendations regarding the site, instructions, errors (including translations), problems (eg. text won't format correctly) or anything else (such as ideas for Article categories and Glossary terms) to the Website contact. That would be appreciated! (Unfortunately the Website Contact does not understand French so, if you can not send a message in English then please use the UPP contact instead – sorry!)
Administrator.
